Joe Lycett has said that ticket sales for his stand-up tour have 'exploded' since he jokingly came out as right wing.

When appearing on the BBC's new flagship politics show Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Lycett sarcastically said that he was a right wing supporter of new Prime Minister Liz Truss.

The comedian said: “I know there’s been criticism in The Mail on Sunday today about leftie liberal wokey comedians on the BBC. I’m actually very right-wing and I loved it. I thought she gave great clear answers. I know exactly what she’s up to.”

He has since said on Twitter that he has seen a large increase in ticket sales since he affirmed his support for Truss.

Lycett wrote: "Fyi since coming out as right wing my tour sales have exploded #staywokestaybroke #fairplaytojanet."

Lycett has also conducted a number of political pranks in the past including making a parody of Sue Gray's report into Partygate.

The mock report was said to have caused "panic" among MP's who believed it was real.

Lycett also duped Nadine Dorries into thinking he was supporting Boris Johnson when he wrote: “Don’t rise to it babe, im with nadine we r on ur side no matter what xoxox."

Dorries retweeted Lycett's post before quickly deleting it after realising it was a prank.

The comedian is currently on his MORE, MORE, MORE! HOW DO YOU LYCETT? HOW DO YOU LYCETT? tour that will continue into October.

He is set to play a number of arena dates in cities such as Birmingham, London, Liverpool and Manchester.

Lycett will also return to Birmingham next month to film his latest stand-up special. There will be two filmed performances at the city's Alexandra Theatre on 20 and 21 October.

Tickets for all of Lycett's upcoming shows can be purchased through See Tickets or Ticketmaster.
