Joe Swash has said he missed out on some of his son Harry's childhood due to a difficult split with his ex-partner.

The former EastEnders actor and Emma Sophocleous welcomed their only child in 2007 before separating the following year.

Discussing fatherhood with Dave Berry on his Dadpod podcast, Swash shared: “With my first child, Harry, there was a period where mine and Harry's mum's relationship affected my relationship with him.

"I didn't get to see him for a period of time, so I missed out on quite a lot."

Despite the difficulties earlier in his life, Harry has a strong bond with his dad.

"Now, me and my son Hal, we spent all the time together," Swash continued. "He's, like, my shadow. I love him, but there was a period where I just couldn't see this happening in the future. So, I did miss out quite a lot of Hal growing up, as a baby.”

Swash and Sophocleous took their custody battle to court after failing to reach an agreement on their own.

Earlier this year, he said on podcast Steplife that the cash he'd spent on getting access to Harry was "the best money I've ever spent".

The Dancing on Ice champion welcomed his second child, son Rex, with Stacey Solomon in May last year.

In addition to Harry and Rex, Swash is also stepdad to Solomon's two sons from previous relationships, Zachary and Leighton.

He admitted he might not be quite done with having children, telling Berry he "might have one more" in him.
