For nearly a decade, John Krasinski portrayed Jim Halpert on NBC’s hit sitcom The Office. While his on-screen relationship with actress Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesly, gained a dedicated following, he met his real-life wife, Emily Blunt, outside of the NBC show.

In November 2008, John and Emily first crossed paths at a restaurant. According to the British actress, she was with a mutual friend who spotted John sitting with Justin Theroux. "[John] abandoned Justin and came over to talk to us," Emily said on Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2018. "He did not eat. He just stood there and made me laugh."

Though John wishes he would've come off smoother, he’s happy it worked out in his favor. "It’s one of those things where, as soon as you meet someone, you kind of know,” he said on The Ellen Show in 2011. “I wasn’t really looking for a relationship … then I met her and I was so nervous. I was like, ‘Oh God, I think I’m going to fall in love with her.’ And as I shook her hand I went, ‘I like you.’”

Shortly after, the two went on their first date — and it was a unique experience to say the least.

“I was scared out of my mind to even go up to her and say hi to her. On our first date, I decided, ‘I’m gonna really hit the gas and bring her to a gun range,'" John said in a 2012 interview on CONAN. "I think that I was so sure that I would never end up with her … that I was like, ‘You know what, I’m gonna blow it right away and then that way you don’t feel bad.’”

It’s worth noting that it was also John’s first time at a gun range and he “yelped” after he took his first shot. Thankfully though, the experience didn’t scare Emily away.

Less than a year later, in August 2009, John proposed to The Devil Wears Prada star. To this day, details about the special moment have remained under wraps, but from what we do know, it was emotional.

“It was very casual. I was nervous and the whole nine yards,” John told Access Hollywood in 2009. "She did cry after I cried and we cried and then everyone around us was crying. Then, I think people weren’t really sure what was going on, but they were crying because we were crying. But it was great. At the end of the day she said yes, which is great. It’s a big part of this whole thing."

According to Emily, it was extraordinary. "All I can say is that there were flutes playing in the background, butterflies, there were angels showering us with rainbow drops," Emily told MTV News in 2009.

On July 10, 2010, the couple got married in an intimate ceremony at George Clooney's house in Lake Como, Italy. "George said, 'I have this place and you should feel free to use it,'" John told Elle in 2016. "Only on the fourth ask did I say yes. Because the first three times I thought, 'There's no way he is serious.' But I started to see his feelings get hurt. I actually hurt George Clooney's feelings."

Fast forward, in February 2014, John and Emily welcomed their first child, a daughter named Hazel. Two years later, in June 2016, the couple had their second daughter, Violet. Much like their relationship, the duo keeps their kids’ lives private and out of the spotlight.

Coming full circle, John thanks The Office for leading him to Emily. "It's a little bit of an existential crisis after a while, because I wouldn't have met my wife [had I not] been out in L.A.," he said on the Today show in 2012. "Truly, when I say the show has given me everything, it's given me everything."

And his wife of 10 years couldn’t agree more. "Meeting John really changed my life ... When I feel the support that I have from him, I feel invincible,” Emily told InStyle in 2013. “There's someone behind you on your good days and someone in front of you on your bad days.”
