Ecuador-based 2bLatam, the driving creative force behind the wildly popular Spanish-language comedy channel enchufe.tv, has joined forces with Mexican media & entertainment indie Elefantec Global to develop content around enchufe.tv’s IP.
Founded by former Televisa exec José “Pepe” Bastón, Elefantec Global is behind such notable productions as “Bosé” for Paramount+ in Latin America, “La rebellion” for ViX+ and “Todo por Lucy’ for Prime Video. With over 70 million subscribers on its social media channels, enchufe.tv is the largest Spanish-language comedy channel worldwide. Its YouTube channel alone reaches more than 27 million subs, said Arturo Yépez, CEO of 2bLatam.

The strategic partnership will seek to adapt the unique humor found in enchufe.tv’s sketches onto the big screen with its first project centering around one of the channel’s most iconic characters. More details will be announced at a later date.
The partners are also working on the development of a Mexican version of some of enchufe.tv’s sketches, adapting its humor to more Mexican sensibilities.
“We produce our films in parallel with a marketing strategy within the channel, leveraging our knowledge and experience in digital campaigns and content creators,” said Yépez as the new deal will seek to further expand the enchufe.tv audience in both cinemas and in additional digital platforms.

Among enchufe.tv’s most successful sketches is a parody of the Japanese manga series “Captain Tsubasa,” titled “Super Campeones” (“Super Champions”), which has snagged more than 100 million views. Given the region’s predominantly young population, these sketch comedies skyrocketed in popularity.
Last April, Edward James Olmos, his son Michael Olmos and Morris Ruskin’s MoJo Global Arts pacted with 2bLatam to make an English-language premium TV version of its YouTube phenomenon, “Mortal Glitch.” This would be the first project in English for the Ecuadorian company.
To date, “Mortal Glitch” has been the only fiction series produced in Latin America for YouTube Premium. The web series notched up to 37 million views, with 13.3 million views in Mexico, 5.1 million views in Colombia and 4.1 million views in Argentina.
