Julia Louis-Dreyfus roasts Trump as host of Democratic National Convention
Veep and Seinfeld star Julia Louis-Dreyfus hosted the fourth and final night of the Democratic National Convention where she brutally roasted President Trump throughout. Louis-Dreyfus took the opportunity to poke fun at Trump’s Twitter habits, his golf game, his literacy and rumored lack of interest in reading intelligence reports, and much more.
Louis-Dreyfus started the night talking about appearing on the cover of the Amtrak on-board magazine Arrive. She said Biden, who famously took the train to work for years while working in Washington, called her and told her it was one of the best issues he’d ever read.
“That is just one of the many reasons I wanted to be here tonight for Joe,” Louis-Dreyfus said. “And to remind you that Joe Biden not only knows how to read, but also, he reads everything.”
Throughout the night, both on her Twitter feed and as host of the convention, Louis-Dreyfus continually reminded viewers to text VOTE to 30330 for voting information in their areas. This afforded her the opportunity to mock Trump for many things, including his refusal to release his tax returns, insisting a cognitive test was difficult, and his golf game, at which he has been accused of cheating.
“An easy way to remember 30330, is that’s the year Donald Trump will finally release his tax returns,” Louis-Dreyfus said, later adding, “30330. That would be the president’s golf score if he didn’t cheat. Okay, look, I’ll admit that was a little nasty, but we all know he’s a cheater.” Then, even later, “30330. It’s actually not that hard to remember. Watch: Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV. 30330. Anyone can do it.”
Throughout the week, Trump has been tweeting about some of the speakers at the convention, most notably his predecessor Barack Obama, and Louis-Dreyfus was expecting much of the same.
“Tonight I couldn’t be prouder to be a loyal union member, a passionate climate activist and a patriotic Democrat,” Louis Dreyfus said. “Or as Donald Trump will call me in a tweet tomorrow, a washed up, horse-faced, no-talent has-been with low ratings. Well, with all due respect, sir, it takes one to know one.”
Louis-Dreyfus also reminded viewers that Joe Biden regularly attends church while at the same time reminding them that peaceful protesters were beaten and tear-gassed to clear the way for a Trump photo op in front of one.
“Just remember” Louis-Dreyfus said, “Joe Biden goes to church so regularly that he doesn’t even need tear gas and a bunch of federalized troops to get there.”
And Louis-Dreyfus had a little something for a few others as well.
“If we all vote,” Louis-Dreyfus said, “there is nothing Facebook, Fox News, and Vladimir Putin can do to stop us.”
