Justin Bieber Fans Body-Shame the Weeknd in Memory of ‘Jelena’

Since the dawn of Justin Bieber‘s career, his avid fans have been armed (with words) and ready to support their beloved singer online. No one knows this better than any girl he’s ever dated, who must be prepared to receive Beliebers’ love and hate simultaneously. This warning also applies to anyone who dates Selena Gomez. Lately some “Jelena” fans have targeted Gomez’s boyfriend the Weeknd by body-shaming him on Instagram. But other fans of all three singers are standing up to this kind of commentary.

An account called “jelenawillrise2017,” which has since gone private, posted Bieber’s infamously retouched Calvin Klein ad next to a paparazzi photo of the Weeknd in a sweatshirt. “I’m dead. #chubbel,” read the caption, a play on the Weeknd’s real name, Abel Tesfaye. Instagram user teenholllywood.ud posted a screenshot of the post and called out the Jelena fan, writing, “So we are body shaming now I’m … I get people don’t like Abelena. Don’t go body shaming to prove your point.”

Other users chimed in, agreeing that this was no way to show love for Gomez or Bieber, no matter how nostalgic they may be for their relationship, which ended in 2014.

“This person is dumb,” wrote kimberly___kimberly. “I like Justin more than Abel (I love Abel but Justin more), but the hoodie is a reason too why Abel looks thicker.”

Justfacts2123 asked, “So? Even if he was chubby, are only people with abs allowed to date?”

“A man doesn’t have to constantly take his shirt off to be sexy,” biebsme said.

Then there were those who thought the original body-shaming poster needed a reality check about that long-gone romance. “No matter how many times she insults Abel and Selena, Selena and Justin will never get back together and those are facts!” wrote jay_whyre.

To be fair, Bieber and the Weeknd have not always taken the high road when it comes to commenting on each other. Shortly after Gomez and the Weeknd were spotted kissing in January, a TMZ paparazzo asked Bieber if he listed to the Weeknd’s music. “Hell nah,” Bieber said. “That s***’s whack.

Then in February, the Weeknd recorded the song “Some Way” with rapper Nav. It’s not hard to assume the lyrics are directed at Bieber: “I think your girl, think your girl fell in love with me / She say my f*** and my tongue game a remedy / Oh yeah, yeah, I just hit a lick and I know you feelin’ some way.”

That’s one good way to provoke an angry Belieber.
