Kanye West wore an unorthodox red carpet look to the Met Gala.
For what easily deemed the most glamorous fashion event of the year, West opted to wear a $40 Dickies jacket on the red carpet, pairing it with classic black trousers and sneakers. West’s look effectively revived the “Normcore” trend of a few years past, embracing anti-fashion attire on fashion’s most elaborate evening.
The artist’s look was in stark contrast to his wife, Kim Kardashian, who donned a stunning beaded latex gown by Thierry Mugler. The couple attended the annual celebration for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s new exhibition. This year, the theme is “Camp: Notes on Fashion” which was inspired by Susan Sontag’s famous 1964 essay “Notes on ‘Camp.’”
When asked about his look on the red carpet, West gamely told reporters, “This Dickies, with some Yeezy boots.”

It is unclear whether or not Kanye was trying to embrace his own sort of “camp” with his outfit, but one thing is certain— out of all of Monday’s Met Gala looks, West’s is the most wearable and dare we say—versatile?
It bears a striking resemblance to Barack Obama’s “44” Rag & Bone jacket while leaving behind the expensive $600 price tag. This Dickies jacket might even be that classic transitional jacket you’ve been waiting to buy this spring and now, it’s officially Kanye West-approved.
