Kate Mara has weighed in on the Kevin Spacey sexual misconduct allegations.

The actress played reporter Zoe Barnes in Netflix's House of Cards for 13 episodes and filmed a lot of scenes with the Frank Underwood actor.

As fans will remember, her character slept with Underwood before being shockingly killed off at the start of season two when Frank (then a shoe-in for the Vice President bid) pushed her in front of an oncoming train.

Since then, Kevin Spacey has been written out of the show following accusations of sexual misconduct being made against him.

Following the allegations, Netflix reduced its episode order from thirteen to eight and scrapped two episodes that had already been filmed with Spacey as the lead when production was suspended in October in the wake of the Spacey scandal.

Now, Kate Mara has weighed in on the accusations against her former co-star, saying she had 'no inkling' about the situation and calling it "shocking and devastating".

"I had a really amazing experience on that show for the 13 episodes I was on it," she told the New York Times, before she was asked if she had any inkling about Spacey's apparent sexual misconduct.

"No, that whole thing to me to this day is very shocking and devastating all around," she added.

The final season of House of Cards will now feature Robin Wright as its solo lead, with Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear joining the cast.

Filming on the project resumed in February (with a teaser being dropped last month) and Mara is predicting great things for the show's new protagonist.

"Oh my God, I will tell you that from day one, I've been waiting for Robin to take over," Mara added.

"There's nobody like her."

House of Cards airs on Netflix.
