Kate, Meghan and the rest of the royals arrive for the Queen's Christmas lunch

The festive season has begun for the royals as family members arrived for the Queen’s annual Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday afternoon – including William, Kate, Harry and Meghan.

Her Majesty, 92, hosts a big luncheon every year at the palace for extended members of her family, before she departs for Sandringham for Christmas. The Norfolk estate isn’t thought to be large enough to accommodate everyone so this is their annual get-together.

The Cambridges arrived with two of their children, George, 5, and Charlotte, 3, in the back. Kate donned a pastel pink ensemble with pussy-bow detailing with diamond drop earrings for the occasion.

The Duchess of Sussex was photographed in the passenger seat as husband Harry drove through the palace gates. Meghan appeared to be wearing a high-neck ruffled dress by Erdem and her Cartier diamond and white gold earrings.

The Queen’s husband Prince Philip, 97, was also pictured being driven to the lunch, joined by his children Princess Anne, 68 and Prince Andrew, 58. The Duke of Edinburgh retired from public duties last year and mainly resides in Windsor.

Anne’s son Peter Phillips arrived with his wife Autumn and daughters Savannah and Isla, while Sophie, Countess of Wessex beamed in a burgundy coat and grey scarf as she drove her and her daughter Lady Louise, 15, to the lunch.

Princess Beatrice also attended, wearing a £100 plaid coat from River Island.

The Queen stays at Sandringham throughout the festive period and doesn’t usually return to London until after the anniversary of her father King George VI’s death on February 6.

She and Philip have four children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren – with one on the way.
