Kate Middleton and Dr. Jill Biden Co-Wrote an Op-Ed About Early Childhood Care
Kate Middleton and Dr. Jill Biden are calling on both their nations to prioritized early childhood care and education.
The Duchess of Cambridge and the First Lady of the United States met on Friday during the G-7 Summit in Cornwall, England where they visited a school in the town of Hayle to lead a roundtable discussion about early childhood issues. On Saturday, the two women published an op-ed they co-authored on the subject for CNN.
"This is an agenda that should unite us all. We must have new conversations in our families and communities," they wrote in the piece. "We need CEOs to consider how they support the parents and caregivers in their workforces. And we need leaders across the world to understand that early childhood care and education is where they can make some of the most important, long-term impacts for their nations."
Kate and Biden acknowledged the work that is left to be done in their respective countries, but issued a call to action for the United States, United Kingdom, and other nations around the world.
"We both have work to do in our own countries, but we also hope that we can work together across borders and oceans on how to elevate the importance of early care and learning for children," they wrote. "We should undertake new, international research projects and highlight the most successful, innovative examples of early years interventions that we can all share and learn from.As we look to a post-pandemic future, there are few issues more worthy of our attention than the transformative power of early childhood care and education for our communities and nations. We look forward to championing this work in the years to come."
