Kate Middleton Isn’t the Only Royal to Recycle Clothing

Other royals are taking a page from Kate Middleton’s sustainable fashion bible. At a state banquet — basically a fashion show for a royal — in Amsterdam, monarchy-watchers noted that Queen Maxima of the Netherlands rewore a ballgown first spotted in 2014. And it makes sense: this strapless, tulle-and-floral dress is simply too pretty to leave in the closet for long.

She first wore the dress to her brother-in-law Juan Zorreguietta’s wedding to Andrea Wolf in Austria on June 7, 2014. For the wedding, she covered up in a shawl and simple purse made from the same fabric. As last night was a royal affair, she wore the official sash signifying her station. A diamond bracelet and long, dangling diamond earrings managed to make the cut both nights.

Kate Middleton has also gotten a reputation for rewearing clothes from her closet. (Royals, they’re just like us!) Among her style rotation: A blue tweed Michael Kors coat, worn to multiple memorial services, and a very Duchess-worthy pink Alexander McQueen jacket with a Peter Pan collar.

The best part of this news? It gives us all the more reasons to rewear favorite items from our collection. No more stress about wearing the same dress to weddings all summer long. Just remember, if a literal Queen can double up on outfits, so can you.
