All through summer we were transfixed by Kate Middleton's subtle yet stunning hair tweaks. It's well known that members of the royal family have to follow certain protocol when it comes to their looks, but Kate has always had a way of switching things up without overdoing it (no pastel pink for her during lockdown, which was a shame...)

Her natural brunette shade remained a constant for years, that is until lockdown #1 ended and she entered a stunning honey-blonde phase. She even styled it in beachy waves, and gave The Rachel a go - a total departure from her rich, tumbling brunette curls.

Then there were the halo highlights (small, face-framing highlights around the face), which actress Michelle Keegan also dabbled in recently with stunning results.

But the last few times we checked in on Kate, it looked like she'd returned to the dark side for good. She went chocolate brown last week, swapping her signature blow-dry for a '90s updo to commemorate Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph. Then, over the weekend, she popped up on Instagram with a new bouncy blonde 'd0 and we could not believe we were looking at the same person.

Her hair was considerably lighter (we're talking warm, golden-blonde highlights), and blow-dried into voluminous waves that framed her face beautifully. Kate took to social media to praise entrants of her lockdown photography competition, Hold Still, which she launched in May in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery.

"The portraits that illustrate your stories and experiences of lockdown have shown just how much communities have come together during this difficult year," she captioned the post.

If Kate has taught us anything with her latest hair revamp, it's that blonde should not just be reserved for summer months. The pumpkin spice trend can do one, as far as I'm concerned...
