Kate Middleton Says She Makes This Food at Home with Prince George and Princess Charlotte

The pregnant soon-to-be-mother of three said her kids love to help in the kitchen

Kate Middleton and Prince William are about to welcome their third child into growing royal brood. And this week, Middleton made her last public appearance before the arrival of their new offspring, chatting happily with volunteers and members at a Commonwealth Big Lunch event about her two youngsters’ favorite foods. “I’ve done that with George and Charlotte—making pizza dough,” she told one of the members, according to Hello! magazine. “They love it because they can get their hands messy.” Middleton didn’t elaborate on whether or not Prince William gets his own hands covered in pizza dough at the family pizza parties, but in previous interviews, the Duke of Cambridge has talked about his skills (or lack thereof) in the kitchen.

“I do like cooking, but I’m not very good. I like a roast,” he told People last fall. “So a bit of roast chicken or a steak. I like it medium rare. I like it quite alive.” Kate Middleton has similarly downplayed her cooking skills, saying during a gala dinner in 2016, “William has to put up with my cooking most of the time,” to which William quipped jokingly, “It’s the reason I’m so skinny!” In a documentary that coincided with the Queen’s 90th birthday, however, Middleton revealed that she cooked up a pot of her grandmother’s chutney as a contribution at her first Christmas at Sandringham. “I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present. I was thinking, ‘Gosh, what should I give her?’ I thought back to what would I give my own grandparents and I thought, ‘I’ll make her something,’ which could have gone horribly wrong, but I decided to make my granny’s recipe of chutney.”
