Kate Middleton Steps Out in a Comfy Alternative to the Summer Wedge

Today, Kate Middleton ended her Wimbledon style streak by attending the tennis tournament’s closing event: the men’s final, in which Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer. In doing so, the Duchess of Cambridge—who attended the women’s final yesterday alongside sister Pippa Middleton and fellow royal Meghan Markle—chose to wear one of her favorite labels, slipping on a blue below-the-knee dress by Emilia Wickstead that had slightly capped sleeves. But it was her choice of footwear that proved a slight departure for the Duchess.

Typically favoring a hefty summer wedge by L.K. Bennett, Middleton wore a nude ankle-strap pump with a thick block heel instead. They proved to be a sturdier, and likely comfier, alternative to her shoe of choice. Its neutral colorway also helped extend the leg—a classic styling move. As for other accessories? Middleton rounded out the look with an embroidered clutch; pinned onto her dress was a green and purple bow, which she wore as an official patron of the Wimbledon’s All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club. Middleton clearly knows how to put a chic stamp on sporting events.
