Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress Designer Sarah Burton Leaves Alexander McQueen: Look Back at the Iconic Gown
The luxury British label is a staple in the Princess of Wales' wardrobe
Sarah Burton, who famously designed Kate Middleton's wedding dress, is leaving the British luxury label Alexander McQueen.
Burton, 49, joined the label as creative director in May 2010. She will showcase her last collection at the Spring-Summer ‘24 fashion show in Paris this September.
McQueen has been one of Kate’s go-to brands since marrying into the royal family. While Kate has sported the brand on various occasions, the most memorable is undoubtedly her wedding to Prince William in London in 2011.
The gorgeous Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown featured French Chantilly lace and English Cluny lace throughout the bodice, skirt and underskirt. The flowing skirt, made of ivory and white satin gazar, was designed to emulate an opening flower.
But Kate’s love for the brand doesn’t stop there. The princess, 41, has been spotted wearing the label multiple times this year, including the head-turning red ensemble she chose for her Royal Ascot debut as the Princess of Wales.

She also showed support for the label on the biggest event on the royal calendar, the coronation! Underneath her traditional robe, Kate wore an ivory silk crepe with silver bullion and thread work embroidery featuring rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock motifs representing the U.K.'s four nations.
In support of the house, Kate stepped out on September 12th in a polished navy blue suit courtesy of McQueen.

In a statement announcing her departure, Burton thanked the brand's visionary founder Lee Alexander McQueen, who died by suicide at age 40, "above all": "He taught me so much and I am eternally grateful to him. I am looking forward to the future and my next chapter and will always carry this treasured time with me.”
