Kate Moss' Latest Outfit Is a Masterclass in '90s Nostalgia

Present day fashion is so influenced by 1990s style that if a studious alien life force were to land on our planet today, it might be reasonably confused as to which year it actually arrived. Still, this elder millennial remembers a key detail about the era that many Gen Z taste-recyclers seem to have missed: just how influenced the '90s were by the 1970s.
Arguably the most iconic face of the grunge and heroin chic era, Kate Moss, knows this well, and it's a lesson she's bringing with her into 2022. Heading to Cecconi's Mayfair in London this week, Moss wore the most '90s-by-way-of-the-'70s outfit we can imagine.
Her velvet blazer channelled Gwyneth in Gucci as much as it did Jimi Hendrix. Her wide-leg pants nodded to bell-bottoms and JNCOs alike. And her massive, face-shielding Velvet Canyon sunglasses served full Twiggy — with a side of Kurt Cobain. Even her Chanel Reissue Double Flap Bag hearkened to the bag that was popular through both decades and worn by Coco Chanel herself.
This '90s queen is a '70s child at heart, and the good news is that this untapped source of nostalgic fashion is easy to find, with velvet blazers and flared pants starting at just $14 on Amazon. Shop Kate Moss-inspired retro trends, below.
