Andy Spade, who is the brother of actor David Spade, shared his first Instagram post since his wife of 24 years was found dead in June at the Manhattan apartment they once shared. According to a statement released by her widower, the couple had lived apart for about 10 months but had not planned to divorce.

The grieving Spade’s new Instagram reveals how good friends and a tribute to the fashion icon helped him and 13-year-old daughter Frances Beatrix cope in the wake of her untimely death. During a stay with loved ones this summer, father and daughter set up an impromptu Christmas tree as a sweet nod to Spade’s fondness for the holiday.

The designer, who was 55 at the time of her death, was born on Christmas Eve, sparking a lifelong love for the festive period. Brother-in-law David Spade also referenced the holiday in the tribute he posted in June.

The display may not have been seasonal, but it clearly offered Spade’s loved ones sentimental solace during their time of need.
