Fans put up a good fight to #SaveRebel, and their efforts didn't go unnoticed.

Three months after ABC unexpectedly canceled the drama series and caused an online uproar, showrunner Krista Vernoff confirmed earlier this week that Rebel will not be returning for season 2. On Monday, the executive producer thanked folks on Twitter for throwing their support behind her latest work, which was given the axe after airing only five episodes.

"THANK YOU to the fans behind the #SaveRebel campaign. Your passion was incredible," she wrote. "We have learned there won't be a Season 2, but we truly hope Rebel & the extraordinary @ErinBrockovich will continue to inspire you to fight the good fight in your communities and in your lives."

The next day, on Tuesday, lead actress Katey Sagal spoke out on Instagram about the final decision. She previously called for fans to raise their voices through a #SaveRebel petition, which amassed more than 90,000 signatures in the end. After seeing fans' collaborative effort, Katey only had words of love and gratitude to share.

"Amazing fans and supporters, As you've all seen, Rebel will not be moving forward for a season 2," she wrote. "Because of you and your continued presence, we were able to give it its best possible shot. Your rebellious voices were ignited, you spoke up and were heard."

She continued: "Krista Vernoff gave us a great story to tell, and we told it! Many of you were moved. Hopefully, this sho biz situation has taught us all the power of asking for what you want, standing by something you believe in, and the power of unity. All that to say, carry on, one voice is how we get to many. With so much Rebel work to be done. One voice at a time."

Along with Rebel fans sending Katey encouraging and sympathetic messages about the end of the show, a few of her fellow cast members also stopped by the comments section. "🙌🙌🙌🙌," Tamala Reneé Jones wrote. "💕💕‼️‼️💕‼️💕‼️💕‼️," Ariela Barer added. "❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️," Kevin Zegers commented.

We'll see Katey really soon again in the upcoming film Tattered Hearts, which is expected to come out next year.
