Update October 26, 2021: Per Variety, The Comeback Girl is no longer in development. "Because of issues around the life rights of Joan Rivers, a limited series in which Kathryn Hahn would have played the legendary comedian, isn’t moving forward," reports the publication.

Between WandaVision and the upcoming Knives Out 2, Kathryn Hahn is collecting iconic roles. Now, she has another to add to her long list. The actress is slated to play comedy legend Joan Rivers in an upcoming Showtime miniseries. The Comeback Girl, a series about Rivers's life, is currently in development—Hahn will both star and executive produce.

Rivers, who died in at age 81 in 2014, was a trailblazer for women in standup comedy. She became famous in the 1960s, a rarity for female comics. She began making appearances on Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show in the mid-1960s, and eventually became a regular guest host in the 1980s. Her career took off from there, and she soon became one of the most influential comedians in history and the first woman to ever host a late-night talk show with The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers.

Though The Comeback Girl is still in its early stages, here is everything we know so far.

The series will document a difficult period in Rivers's life.

According to Variety, The Comeback Girl will be primarily set in the aftermath of the cancellation of The Late Show. This period also coincided with Rivers’s husband Edgar Rosenberg’s death by suicide.

The show's description reads: "Trailblazer. Adored. Cruel. Diva. Joan Rivers had a life like no other. At age 54, she was a superstar comedienne…and then it all fell apart. The Comeback Girl is the awe-inspiring untold story of how Joan Rivers persevered through near suicide and professional abyss to rebuild herself and her career to become a global icon."

Kathryn Hahn will star and executive produce.

Hahn was recently nominated for an Emmy award for her role in WandaVision. Greg Berlanti (Dawson's Creek, Riverdale, Brothers & Sisters)will direct and executive produce and newcomer Cosmo Carlson will write and executive produce.
