Kathy Griffin Reveals She Has Stage One Lung Cancer

Comedian Kathy Griffin just shared that she has been diagnosed with stage one lung cancer.

On Monday, the Suddenly Susan actress posted the news to her Twitter account. "I've got to tell you guys something," the comedian wrote, addressing her followers and fans. "I have cancer. I'm about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed. Yes, I have lung cancer even though I've never smoked!"

Griffin continued saying that she and the doctors are feeling hopeful about her recovery because the cancer was caught in the early stages. "The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung. Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing. I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less. It's been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I'm gonna be just fine."

"Of course I'm fully vaccinated for Covid," she added. "The consequences for being unvaccinated would have been even more serious. Please stay up to date on your medical check ups. It'll save. your life."

In 2017, Griffin supported her sister in her battle with cancer by shaving off all of her hair. Her mother Maggie Griffin took to Twitter to share a photo of the awesome gesture writing, "Kathleen Mary is a wonderful human being."

Sadly, she lost her sister later that year to cancer. And in 2014, Griffin's older brother Gary also passed away from stage-four esophageal cancer.
