Kelly Clarkson Opened Up About the "Hardest" Parts of Her Divorce

"This isn't happiness, and we both deserve better."

Kelly Clarkson is opening up about the "hardest" parts of her divorce from Brandon Blackstock.

On Tuesday, Clarkson had guest Glennon Doyle on her show to discuss the author's book Untamed, which follows Doyle's own divorce.

"Glennon, you write about the fallout from your divorce — I'm obviously going through one right now," Clarkson said. "It's horrible. There are so many hard parts. The hardest for me is the kids ... I think, as women especially, we're trained to take it all on and deal with it and you're fine. But it's your babies that you worry about."

Clarkson went on to discuss realizing during her marriage that "This isn't happiness, and we both deserve better. That line so hit home for me: I don't want this for everyone in this scenario right now."

Clarkson shares two children with Blackstock — six-year-old daughter River and four-year-old son Remington. Earlier this week, she was granted primary custody of their children.

Clarkson will allow Blackstock to visit their children at her L.A. residence and that the couple will share joint physical and legal custody, but Clarkson will have primary physical custody in Los Angeles.

Court documents stated that a Los Angeles county judge ruled that "under the circumstances present in this case, the interest in providing stability and continuity for the minor children weighs in favor of [Clarkson] having primary custody."
