  • Kelly Ripa, 50, showed off her sculpted abs in a workout photo.

  • “Work in progress,” she captioned the pic on Instagram.

  • The talkshow host recently returned to in-person workouts with her trainer.

After nearly a year and a half of working out at home, Kelly Ripa is thrilled to have returned to the gym. And she’s in no way easing back into her routine. Nope — she’s absolutely crushing it!

On the morning of May 18, Ripa shared a mid-workout snap from her personal trainer Anna Kaiser’s fitness studio. The Live! with Kelly and Ryan host laid on a block wearing ankle weights, presumably mid-crunch of some sort. She wore a crop top and short shorts that showed off her incredibly sculpted core. “Work in progress,” she captioned the pic.

Last week, she and Kaiser reunited in person after 14 months of virtual training, and the next day on Live!, Ripa admitted to being very sore.

“I did it, I did it, I did it,” she told Ryan Seacrest. “I worked out at Anna Kaiser Studios yesterday, inside.” Seacrest asked if that was her “dance cardio class,” and Ripa replied, “It’s everything. It’s HIIT.”

Then, the 50-year-old admitted that she may have not fully exerted herself over the last year of solo workouts, which made her first in-person session a tough one.

“I realized that a lot of the working out I’ve been doing, you know my online workouts, have been me watching more than actually doing it,” she laughed. “And then I sit down and then I grab the cereal box. And yesterday, I couldn’t do that because I was in a room with Anna.”

Later, she admitted to being “sore everywhere.” But the effort is clearly already paying off. Ripa has trained with Kaiser for 11 years, per PureWow, and loves that the workouts incorporate dance to access every muscle in the body. “It’s a combination of dance and functional training,” Kaiser told the outlet.

In February 2020, she told Women’s Health that “every exercise we do works your full core — the butt, the abs, and the back — at the same time.”

The professional assistance is a big part of Ripa’s success, but her hard work pays off because she’s consistent. “Even on days when there are a million other things happening, she makes it a priority, like a meeting in her schedule,” Kaiser told PureWow. “That’s the secret to any situation, whether you’re working out virtually or going into the studio.”

Plus, she switches it up. “I constantly challenge Kelly with various props and strength combinations,” Kaiser added, including different rep variations and weights. And when she’s not dancing in the studio, Ripa’s getting in cardio with a long run or a SoulCycle class.

“I find time to work out because if my body is in good shape, my mind is in good shape,” Ripa explained to Women’s Health in 2018. “It clears out my brain, and it helps me think.”
