We all thought that Princess Charlotte started nursery last week but it seems the young royal may have conquered the milestone this morning.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s second child has started nursery at Willcocks Nursery School in London – conveniently located a mere 12-minute walk from their apartment in Kensington Palace.

And Kensington Palace has finally shared two images (taken by mum-turned-photographer Kate Middleton) on Instagram.

In the adorable snaps, the young royal dons a crimson coat by Amaia Kids (which weighs in at £120) with co-ordinating shoes and a Cath Kidston backpack.

And with the ‘Princess Charlotte effect‘ in full swing, we predict a sell-out on the horizon…

The princess, two, is the first member of the royal family to attend Willcocks: Prince George attended a Montessori close to his parents’ Norfolk home, while Prince William and Prince Harry spent their early years at Mrs. Mynors’ Nursery School in Notting Hill in the 80s.

Willcocks, which costs £14,500 a year, is said to be “delighted” that Charlotte has joined them. Owned and run by headmistress Lavinia Taylor and boasting an all-female staff, it was once featured in Tatler’s guide to top nurseries – ideal for a princess-in-training.

Charlotte’s first day involved a ‘stay and play’ and enabled William and Kate to settle their daughter in before leaving her for a short while to see if she could cope. Eventually, she will be left for an entire morning or afternoon.

It’s not just Princess Charlotte whose Christmas break is over. Prince George is back at school at Thomas’ Battersea and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have a fairly busy schedule over the coming weeks.

On 10 January, Kate will visit Reach Academy Feltham to look at their work with Place2Be. Prince William will visit the The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust on the same day. On 16 January, the couple will head up to Coventry to visit Coventry Cathedral, Coventry University and The Positive Youth Foundation.

At the end of the month, the pair will undertake a brief tour of Sweden and Norway.
