Kid Cudi's Floral Dress on SNL Is Going Viral

Carey Mulligan might have been the host of last night's episode of Saturday Night Live, but Kid Cudi (and his floral dress) stole the show.

In a timely tribute to Kurt Cobain, Cudi first kicked off his performance wearing a green cardigan similar to the one the Nirvana frontman had on during his MTV Unplugged concert in 1993. He then changed into an outfit reminiscent of the rocker's most iconic looks: a maxi-length floral dress with spaghetti straps.

The custom Off-White gown's gardenia pattern was almost identical to the dress Cobain wore for a live show in 1989.

Long before Harry Styles, Cobain was challenging society's gender norms with his fashion. In a 1993 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Kurt said: "Wearing a dress shows I can be as feminine as I want. I'm a heterosexual… big deal, but if I was a homosexual, it wouldn't matter, either."

Cudi's nostalgic ensembles were worn in honor of the 27th anniversary of Cobain's suicide earlier this month, and the connection was not lost on social media.
