She might be known for her glamorous style, but Kim Kardashian’s relatives were closer to the Highlands than the catwalk.

A journalist has discovered that the 38-year-old reality TV star can trace her roots back to the Scottish royal family, and to folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor.

Craig Williams decided to follow the Kardashian family tree after noting their fondness for Scottish names in reference to their heritage, including Kourtney Kardashian’s daughter Penelope Scotland Disick.

Williams told the Daily Record that he had discovered the Kardashians are related to the MacGregor clan, whose founder Gregor was the brother of ninth century monarch Kenneth MacAlpin - known as the first King of Scots.

He said: “I thought the family must be aware of a Scottish background. And sure enough, when I searched the historical records, there it was.

“I had no idea [the Kardashians] would be linked to such a towering figure from Scottish history though.

“And as the MacGregors claim direct descent from Scottish kings, maybe Kim could have a claim on the throne.”

The link comes through the great-great-great grandmother of Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner - Mississippi-born Margaret Elizabeth Magee.

Her great-great-great-great-great grandfather was Thomas Magee, who emigrated from Scotland to Virginia in around 1670, splitting the family across the Atlantic.

Magee was related to Rob Roy, who was born in 1671, and fought against the aristocracy as an outlaw.

Roy was portrayed by Liam Neeson in an Oscar-nominated 1995 film.

He’s certainly an interesting figure for the Kardashians to be related to, as Roy’s down and dirty lifestyle could not be further from the red carpet style of the reality TV clan.

Kardashian’s revelations will evoke memories of Danny Dyer’s appearance on Who Do You Think You Are?, when the Essex actor discovered he was a descendant of 14th century King Edward III.
