Kim Kardashian Gets Called Out (Again) For Tone-Deaf Birthday Festivities
Kim Kardashian Gets Called Out (Again) For Tone-Deaf Birthday Festivities
Private island, negative tests, summer fun.
Humble, down-to-earth, everywoman Kim Kardashian celebrated her 40th birthday with 40 of her closest friends and family, a private Boeing 777, private villas, and Tahitian beaches, according to TMZ (like her sisters before her, Kardashian also ignored California's non-essential travel ban). And while that all could have happened without the entire world knowing — there's a pandemic happening, Kim — does a party happen if a Kardashian doesn't post about it? After Kardashian shared photos of the multi-day soirée on Twitter, people clapped back at her flaunting her wealth and privilege, even though her caption mentioned how grateful and humble she felt during the party.

In a series of tweets, Kardashian waxed poetic about turning 40, discussed socioeconomic inequity, personal growth, and gratitude to her friends and family.
"40 and feeling so humbled and blessed. There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter," the first tweet read.
"For my birthday this year, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today," the subsequent posts continued. "Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment."
"After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time," she finished. "We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40."

Kim's humble observations and festive photos didn't sit well with some Twitter users, who were quick to point out that she wasn't being humble at all. In fact, they called her out for not realizing that many people are quarantining, unemployed, and unable to see their friends and family, much less experience a lavish birthday party that included whale-watching and private villas (outfitted with Skims PJs, KKW Beauty products, GoPro cameras, and waterproof disposable cameras).
If you understood your privilege then you would’ve kept this private instead of posting it for all the less privileged to see.

Nothing says humble like a thread of photos of millionaires posing for photos on a private island!

The post also sparked a slew of memes making fun of just how outrageous the whole post was.

TMZ adds that almost the entire Kardashian-Jenner brood was present, including Kris Jenner, Khloé Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, La La Anthony, Corey Gamble, Devin Booker, Tristan Thompson, and Scott and Mason Disick. Kanye West was also in attendance, though he wasn't present for the entire trip, arriving later than the rest of the group.
