Six consumers have reported "choking or gagging" in connection with the issue
On Tuesday night, Kraft Heinz issued a recall of Kraft Singles American cheese slices after reports of consumers choking on plastic wrap.
According to a release from the food brand, one of the machines that adds the plastic wrapping to each cheese slice malfunctioned. This issue means that a “thin strip of the individual film” could remain on the cheese slice even after the wrapper had been removed, potentially causing a “gagging or choking hazard” for consumers.
Kraft reports that six consumers complained of “choking or gagging in connection with the issue” but that no injuries have been reported.
Products included in the recall include 16 oz. Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product with a UPC of 0 2100061526 1 (this number can be found with the barcode) and a best-by date of Jan. 10, 2024 through Jan. 27, 2024. The 3 lb. multipacks of Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product are also included in the recall. These have a UPC of 0 2100060491 3 and a best-by date of Jan. 9, 2024 through Jan. 16, 2024.
Should you have any of the recalled products, you can return them to where they were purchased for an exchange or refund.
Kraft reports to have fixed the faulty machine and inspected all other processing machines.
