Kristen Bell Caught Her Daughters Drinking O’Douls During a Zoom Class — and She Is OK With It

From Woman's Day

In a recent interview on Say Yes! With Carla Hall, actress Kristen Bell revealed that she walked in on both of her daughters drinking O'Douls during their Zoom classes. But rather than yank the nonalcoholic beers from their tiny hands, the Good Place star let them drink.

"Listen. I'm gonna get a lot of flak for this. And let me start by saying, I don't care," Bell said on the podcast, before diving into how she found her daughter drinking O'Douls during class. "You're allowed to give me any advice you want. Any of these listeners, you're welcome to tell me I'm a terrible parent. I don't care. I'm a great parent. I'm learning every day."

In retelling the story, Bell said her girls began their at-home schooling for the day like they always do and took a 15-minute break halfway through the morning.

"I walk in to check on them at 9:30, and both of them are drinking an O'Doul's on their Zooms," Kristen said. "They're both just sipping their Doulies. And I'm like, 'What must these other parents and teachers think of me?' And then I remind myself, 'You don't care, Kristen. They can pretend like you're doing something wrong.' I would argue that I'm not, because it's nonalcoholic."

Bell explained that her husband Dax Shepard, who has been sober for over 15 years, drinks O'Douls — which has less than 0.5% alcohol per volume — so the beverage is somewhat of a staple in their house. When they had their first child Lincoln, Shepard used to put her in the Baby Bjorn, walk around the neighborhood, and "pop a nonalcoholic beer in his hand, and the baby would paw at it and put the rim in her mouth," Bell explained.

"It's a sentimental thing for my girls, right? It makes them feel close to their dad."

Bell and Shepard have raised their girls to be cognizant of their father's sobriety and the importance of it. The girls even made him a card for his 16th sobriety "birthday." on Sept. 1. The card read, "Happy Sobriety Birthday Dady" with a drawing of Ron Weasley from Harry Potter.

The actress said giving her daughters permission to drink O'Douls, like her husband does, "opens up the discussion for why daddy has to drink nonalcoholic beer."
