Kristen Stewart Looks Identical to Princess Diana in First Image from “Spencer”

The upcoming biopic follows the late royal through Christmastime in 1991.

We finally have our first look at the highly anticipated Princess Diana biopic starring Kristen Stewart: Spencer.

The film, which is expected to debut later this year, focuses on a significant period in the late royal's life, when her marriage to Prince Charles reaches a breaking point over Christmastime in 1991.

In the first image released from the film, Stewart (as Diana) wears a red jacket, black blouse, and a black brimmed hat bearing a matching veil. The actress gazes off to her right, and at that angle (and probably others, too), the resemblance is double-take-worthy.

In a statement, Stewart described the film as "a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life."

"It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name; Spencer," Stewart continued. "It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her."

Last fall, Stewart opened up to InStyle about the process of preparing to play one of the world's most beloved figures.

"The accent is intimidating as all hell because people know that voice, and it's so, so distinct and particular," she said. "I'm working on it now and already have my dialect coach."

Of course, the research extended to Diana's history as well.

"I've gotten through two-and-a-half biographies, and I'm finishing all the material before I actually go make the movie," she said. "It's one of the saddest stories to exist ever, and I don't want to just play Diana — I want to know her implicitly."
