From Woman's Day

I'm a firm believer that our furry friends deserve to be just as comfortable as their human companions — especially when it comes to something as important as a bed. And as the resident dog expert at House Beautiful, I pride myself on finding the best products for my dog. From a mermaid life-jacket to a leash umbrella, I'm all about trying the newest items on the market.

When I heard that La-Z-Boy, one of the most iconic furniture brands, was collaborating with Petmate to create a pet collection, I knew I had to have my dog, Waffles, test it out. Because La-Z-Boy is known for its high quality sofas, sectionals, chairs, and, of course, and world-famous recliners — who could forget the Kristen Bell/Dax Shepard fight about the recliner — I had high expectations for the pet line. And I was not disappointed.

While the collection includes several pieces — all of which I would love to have — I chose to test the La-Z-Boy Duchess Fold Out Sofa Sleeper with IClean.

The design is genius.

I'm constantly looking for new, chic dog beds for Waffles. I can honestly say I've never seen a dog bed that folds out like a recliner/sleeper sofa. This was a genius move by La-Z-Boy, and a great way to translate the famous recliner to pets. Post-walk, Waffles loves to sprawl out and rest her little legs. This is when the extended part of the bed comes in clutch. She fits perfectly in the long part of the bed and she has enough room to spread out. And when I need a little more room in my apartment or when she wants to curl up tight, I just fold the long part up and boom! — it's like a new bed.

The iClean™ technology is a game-changer.

I love Waffles but my girl a bit messy. She tracks dirt and gunk in from the streets — NYC living, ya know — and she likes to run straight to her bed before I can wipe her paws off. The iClean™ technology featured on some pieces in the collection — including the bed I got — causes spills to bead up and just wipe away on the surface, helping to repel dirt, grime and even accidents.

Here's proof: one rainy afternoon, Waffles and I came in from a short walk and she had stepped in some mud. Before I could grab the towel to clean her off, she scurried over to her bed and got some nice fresh mud on the flat part of her bed. Instead of seeping in (and requiring serious rubbing and dabbing), the mud just sat on top of the fabric. One wipe and it was all cleaned up — I literally couldn't believe it.

It only comes in one size.

Now, this one size happens to be perfect size for my 20 pound mini Goldendoodle. This bed is great because it can be for a medium or large dogs; however, if you have a small dog, this bed would be huuuuuuge for them. I mean, I like extra room in my bed, so if your dog is into that sort of thing, more power to 'em.

Although the bed may only come in one size, the fabrics and types of beds vary quite a bit. From small-scale cuddlers and loungers to extra-large mattresses and sofas, pet parents can choose from a variety of sleep styles and color patterns to fit any home décor style you're going for. The La-Z-Boy Pet collection ranges in price from $75 to $200 and is available on Petmate.com, Wayfair.com, Petsmart.com, Petco.com.

It's really comfortable.

This bed in particular contains ComfortCore® GEL Premium in the fold-out base, with 5 layers of cushion technology. As a grown woman, I thought the bed was very comfortable and I was confident Waffles would think so too. The bed is definitely high quality and the fabric is soft to the touch, making it the perfect spot for Waffles to curl up.

Also yes, I am well aware that my dog is extremely spoiled.
