Lady Gaga Brings Retro Glamour to the Streets of New York

In New York, there’s two things real New Yorkers know not to wear out and about: heels (they ache after a block), and anything that touches the ground (for obvious reasons). But clearly these rules don’t apply when you’re Lady Gaga. Today, she emerged in a retro look that had a sweeping train and sky-high stilettos. Impractical? Maybe. But oh so glamorous.

Gaga’s in town ahead of a special two-night concert with Tony Bennett, and she’s already been serving looks. On Monday, she posed in front of the Chrysler building wearing a classic Alessandra Rich LBD, looking like the queen of New York. Her look today, however, channelled more of a 1960s sensibility: her groovy, floral frock by Richard Quinn looks like it belongs on Elizabeth Taylor as she lounges poolside at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Gaga made it feel modern with her yellow Louis Vuitton Capucines bag, cat-eye sunglasses, and sky-high platforms that brought some much-needed height to her trailing gown.

Now, the superstar has a history of bringing major fashion moments to the streets—death-defying heels and McQueen gowns, to name a few. She’s been particularly experimenting with a high-octane glamour look as of late, favoring classic silhouettes that have a throwback charm. Enjoy this vibe while it lasts because if there’s one thing we know about Gaga, it’s that she’s fashion’s ultimate shapeshifter.
