Celebrities at the 2019 SAG Awards had us seeing red. Oxblood red, that is. The rich and moody color was the breakout beauty trend at Sunday’s star-studded affair.
Lady Gaga paired her angelic winter-white ensemble with oxblood lipstick and manicure. Always one to experiment with her makeup looks, Lupita Nyong’o stepped out in a smoky cat-eye with a swipe of shimmering oxblood eyeliner on her lower lids. Emma Stone’s recent oxblood hair color makeover looked stunning against her cool skin tone. And Britney Young radiated old Hollywood glamour in vintage waves and matte oxblood lipstick.
Keep reading for an up-close look at how these stars wore oxblood on their lips, nails and hair. Plus, get our editor picks for products as low as $8 so you can try this SAG Awards beauty trend.
Lady Gaga’s matchy-matchy oxblood lip and nail polish color
That brilliant smile on the face of the Star is Born actress may be because of her fiancé Christian Carino in the background, but we’d like to believe that she’s really happy with her matching oxblood lips and nails. The stark contrast between Gaga’s white hair and gown and dark red makeup is enough to make heads turn. But it’s the almond nail shape that adds dramatic flair to her SAG Awards look.
Lupita Nyong’o’s stunning oxblood eyeliner and lipstick
Makeup artist Nick Barose added hints of red to Nyong’o’s SAG Awards makeup so it would “pop” against the actress’s black Vera Wang top. “Red is a dramatic color, especially when used as an accent on eyes. It adds drama and strong attitude to the cat eye instead of the usual all black cat eye,” he explained in a statement. The vampy look came together masterfully, including the box braids by hairstylist Vernon François.
Emma Stone’s oxblood hair color
We’ve seen Emma Stone wear many different shades of red hair color, but this oxblood hue is definitely in our top three looks we love. It gives her milky complexion warmth and amped up the over-the-top Louis Vuitton gold embellished top she wore at the SAG Awards. Swiping on a cherry red lip color also shows that redheads can and should wear red lipstick, too.
Britney Young’s matte oxblood lipstick
Just when we thought we couldn’t obsess over Glow star Britney Young any more, she made our jaws drop with this beauty homage to old Hollywood. What made this look fresh was her opting for this matte shade of oxblood lipstick instead of the classic nude lip. And the formula is clearly hydrating, as the lip color adheres to her pout seamlessly.
