Lady Gaga Shines in Crystal Leotard for Super Bowl Performance

What does one wear to jump off the top of a football stadium, land in the middle of the field, then seamlessly sing without missing a beat? A crystal bodysuit, of course.

For Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl LI performance, the artist called on Donatella Versace, who flew in from Italy just for the 12-minute mini concert, to create the perfect look — and she did just that. The sparkly ensemble consisted of a crystal encrusted long-sleeved bodysuit with oversized shoulders and a mini turtleneck. Gaga teamed the intricate piece with matching knee-high boots.

Mother Monster, who opened with“God Bless America” before being lowered onto the stage in a spider-like manner, had her hair in a bouffant-style updo to take the leap off of Houston’s NRG Stadium. She later pulled it down as she continued with her medley consisting of “Poker Face,” “Born This Way,” “Telephone,” “Just Dance,” and more.

Gaga rocked a red lip but it was her eye makeup that really stood out. Known for taking risks and starting trends, her lids were covered in crystals to match her leotard.

While her makeup remained the same throughout the performance, her clothing did not. At one point during the medley, she slipped on a gold studded jacket with sea urchin-inspired shoulder spikes.

As the quick change artist switched from a ballad, Million Reasons Why, to dance hit Bad Romance, she changed her outfit as well. Getting into the football theme, she put on a pair of sparkly full underwear and a white metal chest pad with crystal accents as a top that would look really cute on Tom Brady (although it’s probably a better fit for his wife Gisele).

Before the big game, Gaga took to the field to pose for a few photos. From Vera Wang’s Spring 2017 collection, she paired a crop top with sheer billowing sleeves with a a high-low hem skirt and super high heels.

Lady Gaga did wear more football appropriate gear while getting ready though. Dancing in a pink jersey with a matching helmet in an Instagram video, she wrote in the caption, “Gettin’ too funky in the dressing room. While my best friends side eye me from the couch for bein a ham so happy my friends and family are. Let’s go men it’s gametime!

She also shared that she warmed up in her custom “Gaga” helmet and “LG” jersey.

“I want to say thank you to my fans for cheering me on all these years,” she wrote in another post just before taking the stage. “I dedicate every second to the love, diversity, compassion, and wild spirit of our fan base. To that kid who felt unwanted, or the grown up who remembers how hard it was to find acceptance. This is for you. It is also for those whose hearts and minds have opened to our message. Thank you for believing in us so we could be here today little monsters this is YOUR stage. And I’m gonna leave my heart on it so you never forget it.”
