The Last Oil Cleanser You'll Ever Need

From Harper's BAZAAR

There are few things more satisfying than washing your face at the end of the day. Personally, I've never had a problem "remembering" to take my makeup off; clean skin is all I look forward to after a long day of wearing primer, foundation, and about a billion other products on my face. But that's not to say my routine couldn't use some improvement. I've woken up with mascara rings around my eyes on plenty of mornings, even when I thought I cleaned so well the night before.

I've tried using an oil-based makeup remover before washing my face, but I dislike rubbing my eyes (I wear contacts). I tried double cleansing for a while, but it just seemed like a lot of work-and a lot of waste. I want a one-and-done kind of cleanser. So when I saw that Kiehl's released a version of their cult-favorite Midnight Recovery Concentrate as an oil cleanser, I had to put it to the test. Would it remove all my makeup? Would it make my face feel clean but not dry? Will my skin be cool and not freak out? Yes, yes, and yes.

The oil is light and slippery-lighter in weight than similar cleansers. For the record, it's free of mineral oil and instead gets its slip from squalane. Lavender oil, which is also found in the serum, gives the cleanser a comforting sleepy-time scent. It's enough to make you yawn (which I love). Only two pumps smeared all over my face and lightly rubbed on eyes removed any and all traces of makeup. Yes, even waterproof mascara. And yes, even my black liquid liner. When I splashed my face with water and looked in the mirror for the first time, I was expecting to see mascara residue still hanging around. But I didn't. And my face? It felt so soft to the touch, without any trace of a slick residue that other cleansers can leave behind.

I've been using this cleanser for almost two weeks, and I already can't imagine what my countertop would look like without it. If you wear makeup everyday and you're looking for the easiest, most deliciously-scented cleanser to use at night, this is it.
