Leafs' Kyle Dubas not happy with Blackhawks about leaked Marc-Andre Fleury talks
In the days leading up to the trade deadline, there was plenty of speculation that the Toronto Maple Leafs were looking at adding Marc-Andre Fleury from the Chicago Blackhawks.
General managers Kyle Dubas and Kyle Davidson were reportedly discussing a deal that would have seen Fleury, along with Brandon Hagel, head to the Leafs. Prospect Matthew Knies was expected to be heading the other way along with a few other pieces. While the deal never came to fruition, the talks between the two teams became public and widespread, something Dubas made clear he wasn’t very happy about.
“I’m disappointed that that conversation is public,” Dubas said to Darren Dreger, who reported on the Fleury talks. “I’m not criticizing you, I’ve just never had that before where these specifics like that have been made public. I think, frankly, that’s probably a conversation to ask Kyle Davidson on his availability in Chicago.”

Davidson caught wind of Dubas’s comments, and said that he plans to speak to the Leafs GM in private on the matter. While he himself may not have been the one to leak these talks, it appears someone on his staff did, which has doubtless contributed to Dubas's frustration.
As mentioned, this deal never ended up coming together, and Fleury has since been traded to the Minnesota Wild instead, while Hagel is now a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning. As for the Maple Leafs, the deadline day itself was quiet, but they were able to pickup Mark Giordano and Colin Blackwell from the Seattle Kraken on Saturday night.
Unless a late move occurs, it appears Dubas will be sticking with his current goaltending situation. Jack Campbell, who is currently out with a rib injury, is still the team’s No. 1 netminder, but he has struggled immensely in the year of 2022, causing many to question whether or not he will be able to lead the Leafs on a playoff run. It appears as though he will have a chance to prove his doubters wrong this spring.
