Watch: Liam Payne addresses unique accent in post-Oscars interview
Liam Payne has addressed his viral post-Oscars interview which saw him baffle fans with an unusual accent.
The One Direction star left viewers bemused in April when he appeared on Good Morning Britain with an accent that included elements of Irish, Welsh, American and Dutch.
Taking to Instagram Live on Monday, the 28-year-old opened up about the moment with fans as he stated: "This was in Oscars week – the ever changing accent. I’m good at accents, I pride myself on them! I just wish sometimes I could do my own.
"What can I say about that really? It was quite funny. I had asked Good Morning Britain, the presenter, I said, 'Please don’t ask me too much because I’ve had a lot to drink and I’m under-ly educated about the Oscars [sic].'"
He continued: "The very first question the man asked me was, 'What do you think about Will Smith?' Now can you imagine, imagine being put on the spot in that moment and knowing, 'I can’t say anything wrong because I’m gonna upset someone” and I just did the best I could.’
"I actually read back what I said and I stand by what I said. But I’m just sorry it came out in so many accents! I’m not even sure if it’s an accent I can do."

The Strip That Down singer went on to reveal that his accent is often affected by the people around him and explained his living situation during award season.
"That day – I’ll tell you the truth – I was staying in a house with two German people, three people from Texas, one person from Liverpool and me," he stated. "It sounded like one of those jokes people say where an Irishman and an Englishman walk into a pub... But it was funny, wasn’t it?"
Wolverhampton-born Payne had been speaking about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock during the Oscars ceremony when he debuted his new accent.
He spoke at length about being neighbours with Smith, having met Rock before and his thoughts that there had been "three losers in one fight", adding "I don't have a dog in this fight", but those watching were distracted from the content of what he was saying by how he was saying it.
One person tweeted: "More shocking than THAT slap, THIS accent."
Someone else quipped: "What in God's name has happened to Liam's accent?! He sounds in Payne."
