With over 141 million followers, the star’s feed is filled with photos of movie premieres, modelling campaigns, and luxurious vacations.

However, recently Gomez interrupted her regularly-scheduled happy posts to remind fans that social media and reality are two very different things.

The singer looked happier than ever in her latest post to Instagram. Gomez shared several photos with her friends with a simple caption, “A few of my favorite things in the entire world!!! [sic]

However, it wasn’t long until the Wolves singer edited the caption to remind her followers that social media’s highlight reel isn’t reality, recognizing the impact social media can have on mental health.

I had something I’ve thought about for a while that I want to share. This page is my highlights and a few low lights. I post what I am willing to share with you guys. I hear people say all the time that they wish they had someone else’s life based on a few pictures,” she wrote in the updated caption.

“We all do it. But this is me sharing some happy moments with you guys. Trust me, my life isn’t always this filtered and flowery… We are all on our own journey.”

Her fans were quick to respond to the update, thanking her for keeping it real on a platform that is often so far removed from reality.

“These photos of time with friends and loved ones is what Instagram is for – before it got taken over by selfies,” wrote one fan.

“You’re so pure and you never forgot where you started. You’re such a role model for all your fans and followers, you spread positivity, strength and courage. Thank you,” added another.

While her cryptic update may not be in relation to one event in particular, Gomez has had a tough year. Aside from recovering from a kidney transplant, Gomez’s ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber recently announced his engagement to model Hailey Baldwin – just months after the pair called it quits.

Still, Gomez is getting by with a little help from her friends, and those special relationships that we all have are definitely highlight reel material.
