The It List: Mayim Bialik in 'Call me Kat,' another 'New Year's Rockin' Eve' and more pop culture highlights of the week

The It List is Yahoo’s weekly look at the best in pop culture. With the coronavirus pandemic in mind here are our picks for the week of December 28th.

Call Me Kat premieres Sunday, Jan. 3 on Fox. Call Me Kat marks a reunion of sorts between Bialik and one of her Big Bang Theory co-stars - although not onscreen. Jim Parsons serves as one of the show’s executive producers.

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2021 airs Thursday, Dec. 31 on ABC. So far, performers include Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus, Cyndi Lauper and most likely many more.

Home Town Season 5 premieres Sunday, Jan. 3 on HGTV. The show follows couple Ben and Erin Napier as they restore vintage and historic homes in Laurel, Mississippi.

- "The It List" is Yahoo's weekly look at the best in pop culture. With the coronavirus pandemic in mind, here are our picks for the week of December 28. New show "Call me Kat" is the latest entry in pun-meets-premise television. Mayim Bialik stars as the titular Kat, who quits her unfulfilling job to open a, wait for it-- cat cafe. As expected, cats and wacky characters are in abundance.

- Ooh, I'd hit that. That's just something I've heard people say. I wish I hadn't tried it.

- "Call me Kat" marks a reunion of sorts between Bialik and one of her "Big Bang Theory" co-stars-- although not on screen-- Jim Parsons, who serves as one of the show's executive producers. The year is almost over, and while 2020 seemed to have warped the very fabric of time, one dependable standard is always "Dick Clark's New Year's Rocking Eve" with Ryan Seacrest.

Don't expect the usual packed-in Times Square crowds this time around-- hopefully-- but nevertheless, Ryan Seacrest and a host of musical guests will take us into 2021, a year that just has to be better. So far, performers include Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus, Cyndi Lauper-- love her-- and most likely, many more.

Over on HGTV, one of their most popular shows "Home Town" is returning for season five. The show follows couple Ben and Erin Napier as they restore vintage and historic homes in Laurel, Mississippi. The new season is packed with 16 all new episodes, each one detailing the transformation of a home. It's all about those before and afters, folks. Come back next week to check out Yahoo's "It List."
