Looks Like Kate Middleton Is Just as Big a Dolly Parton Fan as the Rest of Us
Kate Middleton must feel so disappointed! The Princess of Wales extended an invitation to tea to the one and only Queen of Country Music, Dolly Parton, and Dolly said no, though she did soften it with a “maybe later.” Listen, legends only have so many hours in a day, sometimes mere monarchical figureheads just don’t make the cut. Did Kate Middleton write “Jolene”?
While in London for work, Parton explained, she had no time for sightseeing or making new gal pals. She told the BBC Radio 2, per The Daily Mail, “Lordy, I even got invited to have tea with Kate but I couldn’t even go. I thought it was very sweet and nice of her to invite me, and one of these days I’m going to get to do that—that would be great.” The 77-year-old icon is currently promoting her upcoming rock album Rockstar and joked, “[Kate Middleton] wasn’t going to promote my rock album so I had to say no.”
Parton began the Rockstar project after being nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Seeing herself as a country act, she originally declined the honor but later decided to embrace the genre, and the Hall of Fame. The 30-song album includes a mix of originals and covers, plus a ton of features from other top-tier artists, and drops November 17. “Let It Be” by Dolly, Peter Frampton, Mick Fleetwood, Ringo Starr, and Paul McCartney might actually kill me.
Anyone know how royal command performances work? Is it actually a command? Maybe Kate can get Parton to hop back across the pond to play a few songs and, as a real Southern gentlewoman, teach those rather provincial Brits how to properly serve tea. First of all, it’s supposed to be sweet. And iced. And consumed on a porch. While wearing a hat!
