The Los Angeles Rams, it seems, have found their replacement for Todd Gurley.
The Rams selected Florida State running back Cam Akers with the No. 52 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft on Friday night.
Akers posted an impressive 1,144 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Seminoles last season, his third with the team. The 20-year-old compiled nearly 2,900 yards and 34 total touchdowns over his three seasons at Florida State. He was the fourth running back selected, and was Yahoo Sports’ No. 45 overall prospect headed into the draft.
Akers should have a big opportunity to make an impact right away in Los Angeles, which released Gurley earlier this year. Gurley had spent the past five seasons with the Rams and had some extremely impressive performances — including in 2018, when he ran for more than 1,250 yards, 17 touchdowns and helped lead the team to a Super Bowl. Gurley has since reached a deal with the Atlanta Falcons.
Rams select WR Van Jefferson
The Rams followed up first pick of the draft with another just minutes later, and added yet another offensive weapon to coach Sean McVay’s arsenal.
The Rams picked up Florida wide receiver Van Jefferson with the No. 57 overall pick on Friday night, marking the 12th receiver selected so far in the draft.
Jefferson compiled 647 yards and six touchdowns on 49 receptions last season with the Gators, his second with the program after spending his first three years at Ole Miss.
