'I instantly started crying tears of joy!': Quebec couple take home over $9,000,000 in Lotto 6/49 win

Carole Champagne Gagné and René-Paul Gagné (Loto-Québec)

A couple from Quebec have a lot to be excited about after winning $9,053,760 in a Lotto 6/49 jackpot.

The big reward was an emotional experience for Carole Champagne Gagné and René-Paul Gagné from the Montérégie area.

“I instantly started crying tears of joy!” Carole said in a statement, following the draw on Feb. 8.

When Carole arrived at a convenience store to check her ticket, an employee told her that the winning numbers were purchased in the region. Not knowing what to expect, she scanned her number at the terminal only to hear the jackpot sound, with the value of her new fortune flashing on the screen.

She immediately called her husband to share the exciting news with him.

The new multimillionaires intend to move up their retirement date but they are still thinking about what to do their winnings.

In 2019, Loto-Québec paid out 88 prizes of $1 million or more. This is the second jackpot win in the province in the last two weeks. In a draw on Feb. 5, Laval resident Georges Ghantous took home $1,000,000, also from a Lotto 6/49 draw.
