I’m a Shopping Editor, and These 70% Off Designer Pieces Are the Best Things to Buy This Weekend

Everyone has their own style of shopping, whether you do a ton of research and only buy highly reviewed products, or you’re more of an impulse shopper and let your taste and instinct guide you. We like to think our personal signature is somewhere in between, with a particular knack for spotting the best deals out there.

A sale can be a great way to explore a new designer or brand, one you wouldn’t feel comfortable shelling out top dollars for, but are curious enough about to take the chance with for less. This week, we combed the internet for the best designer deals over 70 percent off, and we found that so, so many of our top picks worth buying are from lesser-known creators.

Amsterdam-based Gauge81, for instance, is an up-and-comer eyed by Selena Gomez whose line is largely marked down at Net-A-Porter right now, with a punchy crop that can be styled over a white button-down particularly discounted. Christina Seewald, a London newcomer only one collection in, creates knitwear special enough to catch the attention of retailer and fashion incubator, Ssense, where her pieces are now selling for barely over $100.

On the jewelry front, a personal fave Venezuelan designer Monica Sordo makes collector-worthy pieces that are miraculously affordable thanks to Nordstrom’s designer sale. If in the market for jewelry from a more household name, we can’t believe this Chloé necklace is less than $130 right now.

Similarly, we found a few bags from under-the-radar brands — two extremely on-trend basket bags from Cesta Collective and Hunting Season (Emily Ratajkowski and Katie Holmes are fans) — and one from a global luxury label. This massive Marni bag isn’t dirt cheap at $567, but considering its original price of $1,890 and the fact Marni doesn’t just go on sale like this, we’re pretty flabbergasted. Others have seemingly clocked this rare deal, too, as there’s only a couple left in stock.

One designer whose name might ring familiar is Emilia Wickstead, who has dressed Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton. Right now, you can shop a beautiful bustier by Wickstead that reminds us of ‘90s Prada for under $180. It’s available in black or, if you’re feeling adventurous, silver.

A few very “now” must-haves to round out the list: A maillot from Solid & Striped for under $60, and one from Etro in the brand’s signature paisley print that’s making a comeback, plus a pair of slipper-loafer hybrids that just make more sense than most things in the world right now.
