Madonna has responded to recent claims she has had cosmetic surgery saying she has ‘free agency over my body.’

Speculation arose about the 60-year-old singer after a new video of her performing on New Year’s Eve revealed her sporting a larger-than-average rear end. Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton shared the video of the star asking “Did Madonna get butt impants????”

The rumours mill haven’t gone unnoticed by Madonna. She’s responded by sharing a new selfie on her official Instagram account, along with a defiant caption.

Sharing with her 12.6 million followers, Madonna wrote: ‘Desperately Seeking No Ones Approval…………..’ – presumedly a riff of her hit 1985 movie Desperately Seeking Susan – ‘And Entitled to Free Agency Over My Body Like Everyone Else!! Thank you 2019! Its Going to Be an amazing Year!!’ along with the hashtags ‘#2019 #freedom #respect #nofear #nodiscrimination’

Madonna was at the Stonewall Inn in New York on New Year’s Eve to help celebrate its 50th anniversary. The bar is famous for being the site that launched the Stonewall riots of 1969 and is often credited as the birthplace of the US LGBT movement.

She performed alongside her 14-year-old son David Banda and gave a heartfelt speech about the importance of LGBT rights. As Banda played his acoustic guitar, she performed her 1989 hit ‘Like a Prayer’ and Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love.’

Her speech included: “I stand here proudly at the place where Pride began. Let us never forget the Stonewall riots and those who bravely stood up and said ‘enough.’ We come together tonight to celebrate 50 years of revolution, 50 years of freedom-fighting.

“We all bleed the same color [SIC], and we all need to love and be loved. I walk in the shadow of giants, of freedom fighters who have come before me, but let’s be giants ourselves and carry each other on our shoulders into a new year and into a future of love and understanding.”
