Maisie Williams says other scripts are "trash" compared to Game of Thrones

From Digital Spy

Game of Thronesfavourite Maisie Williams has claimed that compared to the HBO fantasy series, other scripts are just "trash".

Many fans of the drama were critical of this season's writing, with 55% of Digital Spy readers feeling wronged by the show's ending. Some of its stars were also unhappy with their characters' conclusions.

However, Williams – who played Arya Stark – has told SFX Magazinethatother screenplays she's read feel quite a bit inferior to Thrones.

"I read other scripts now and think, 'This is trash!' The stories are just not complex," she said. "And then sometimes you read a script which is definitely like 30 pages too long and you think, 'But there's still no twist!'"

Williams thinks it was the show's constant shocks that made it so special, explaining: "It's sometimes really difficult to find something that surprises you. I think that's what the show has always done so well."

And – going against what many sour fans have recently commented – she believes the franchise was built on top writing.

"And you can't do that sort of writing unless you're good at writing because otherwise it just becomes sort of nonsensical and you're just being shocking for the sake of being shocking rather than writing something that's believable," she added.

Game of Thrones aired on HBO in the US, and you can also catch up on the show via Hulu. Viewers in the UK can catch up via Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
