Malin Akerman reveals 'constant struggle' she has as an actress that's 'part of the job'

Gibson Johns,

Malin Akerman is opening up about a "constant struggle" that she faces as an actress.

The "Billions" star recently sat down with AOL Entertainment at the GBK Style Lounge, where she revealed that one of the more difficult aspects of being an actress is the toll that the job takes on her hair and skin, which, combined with her autoimmune disorder, forces her to seek extra support for her health.

"My hair is constantly being torn out, and I'm always caked in makeup," she said. "And I have an autoimmune disorder that affects my hair, skin and nails, so I really do need the health and support to build a real foundation for those things."

"It’s a constant struggle for me," she continued. "It’s no joke. Hair straighteners and curlers really take a toll. It’s part of the job, but you need the support."

Which is why she added Nature's Bounty Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies to her daily routine. Akerman told us that maintaining her health was "ingrained" in her growing up because her mother owned health food stores and stressed the importance of living a healthy life.

"I've always been a beauty comes from within kind of girl," she said.

Another force in her life that pushes her to life heathily? Her 4-year-old son, Sebastian, who she shares with ex Roberto Zincone.

"My son is the air that I breathe," she told us with a smile. "For me to be able to keep up with him, I have to have enough energy. I have to get enough sleep. I have to get my vitamins and my nutrients. I want him to grow up with a sense of repsonsibility for his own self and the planet and the environment. We talk a lot about that, because I want him to be a conscious little human being."

Akerman and her son's influence on one another isn't just about talk, either -- they walk the walk! The pair adorably starts their day together in order to be set for the rest of their respective days.

"Our morning routine is everything," she explained. "We get up in the morning and have breakfast together. He has his vitamins, and I have my vitamins."

Now if you'll excuse us, we're going to start taking our vitamins now.
