A Colorado man visiting a state park died in a rollover OHV crash, Utah state park officials said.
Abel Ocampo, 23, of Denver was camping with friends and family in Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park in Kanab when he rented a side-by-side, according to a Sept. 3 news release on the state’s parks website.
Ocampo, who was not wearing a helmet or seat belt, lost control and got into a rollover crash, the release said.
People who saw the crash called for help while others tried to pull him out of the overturned vehicle, officials said.
First responders tried to save him, but Ocampo died at the scene, officials said.
A passenger in the crash suffered minor injuries, officials said. One of the people who helped lift the OHV suffered leg injuries and was sent to the hospital.
Utah parks officials urge those who partake in any outdoor activities to wear helmets and life jackets, let someone know when you’re going and when you’ll be back, and to check weather conditions, the release said.
Kanab is about 310 miles south of Salt Lake City.
