Whether you’ve been naughty or nice or somewhere in-between, the drag entertainer wants you to know that, after the year that we’ve all had in 2020, everyone deserves to splurge a little bit on themselves — without breaking the bank.
“After this whole year, it’s really about finding the silver lining and finding the things that bring you joy and break up the monotony of sitting around at home watching the same streaming apps,” Luzon told In The Know. “It’s really important for you to treat yourself in fabulous ways, so why not get a fierce set of heels to wear on your couch while you blare loud music?”
Whether you’re on the hunt for a delicious indulgence or something that will help you have a little fun as you ring in the new year, Manila Luzon’s list of naughty and nice gifts has a little something for everyone.
Shop: Yahoo Mobile Phone, $19.99
“The phone’s really great, because it’s only 19.99 — and I love a deal! Nowadays, you live on your phone as your only window to the outside world, so you need unlimited data. As a drag queen, it’s all about knowing the bartender that will give you drinks for the good price, and this is the phone carrier for the clever person who knows where to get the good deal,” Luzon said. “Plus, I’m always streaming videos on my phone. I’ll literally be sitting in front of my huge big screen TV, but watching videos on my phone. I gotta watch all my drag sisters’ music videos!”
Shop: One/Size Ultimate Blurring Setting Powder, $30
“I’m so proud of [One/Size Beauty founder] Patrick Starrr, and his new cosmetics company. Patrick Starrr knows what’s up. First of all, he’s LGBTQ, and he owns the company, and he wears makeup almost like a drag queen, so you know that powder’s going to set that makeup real good!” Luzon laughed. “Of all of the powders that are out there, this one just smells nice, feels good, covers makeup and lasts a really long time.”
“Sugarpill is a woman-owned company, and they have some of the best pigments available. Seriously. You’ll see the color on the palette, and that’s the color you’ll see on your face,” Luzon said. “That’s not always the case! They are really pigmented eyeshadows, and they’re vegan and cruelty-free, too.”
Shop: Flowerbomb Eau De Parfum, $115
“This is my favorite scent of all-time. I love the way it smells. It’s a warm, floral scent and it works great,” Luzon gushed. “All you need is one pump, and it covers all the smell of a drag queen. You should smell a drag queen before you see a drag queen!”
Shop: My Shield Mask Hot Pink Jaguar, $10.50
“Everyone should be wearing masks! You should get all the different kinds of masks, though. I discovered My Shield Masks earlier this year. The thing about it that’s great is that they have so many different kinds of masks that you can mask with all of your outfits,” Luzon explained. “Masks are part of your outfit these days, so you want to have a mask for every outfit! They’ve got seasonal ones, sparkly ones … I love them.”
Shop: Normandy Alberti Shine Heels, $405
“My friend introduced me to Normandy Alberti, and it’s this woman who started her own shoe company. I saw them, and I was like, ‘Oh, she’s not playing with these shoes!'” Luzon laughed. “She’s never met me before, but they were designed for me. I need multiple pairs in case I scuff the bottom of them. Again, it’s a woman-owned company designed by a woman for … a man in drag! No, it’s also great, because she does the full range of sizes. It’s very rare that you find a shoe as fierce as this one that fit as comfortably as this does on my foot. I live!”
Shop: Karl Lagerfeld Continental Zip Karl Wallet, $79
“I like to have big wallets to carry around, so I can put all of my money and credit cards in there. When I pull it out, I feel so chic, because I feel like the late great Karl Lagerfeld,” Luzon said of her everyday wallet. “I can’t afford Chanel, so let’s just get Karl Lagerfeld. I love this brand.”
“I haven’t gotten this for Christmas yet, but my neighbors would hate me for this because the sound is apparently super good,” Luzon mused. “All the movie theaters are closed, so we have to watch movies at home, and we might as well make it the surround sound experience.”
Shop: Bombombs Hot Chocolate Bombs, $19.99
“You take one of these chocolate bombs and you plop it into a cup of warm milk, and then the chocolate melts away and reveals the inside with cocoa and marshmallows,” Luzon explained of the in-demand product. “This is way more fun than just trying to mix boring old cocoa powder into hot water. This is like a drag queen reveal, but for hot cocoa! This is an indulgence, but it’s the holidays, and you can really indulge this time of year.”
“I need one of these! We’re not eating out as much anymore, and we’re cooking a lot more at home, and I want a small kitchen appliance to fry my food with. I don’t want a countertop deep fryer, and this is healthy and fast and everyone is gushing about air fryers,” Luzon said of her final gift pick. “This one is also a cute one, because it’s in a retro color. It’s fierce!”
