Throughout much of North America, May 5 is often celebrated as Cinco de Mayo, the day that the town of Puebla, Mexico successfully fought off the French army in 1862. Though it’s not widely observed within the country itself, the day has become a way for the rest of the continent to take part in a celebration of Mexican food, culture, and of course, drinks.

It wouldn’t be Cinco de Mayo without a refreshing margarita in hand, and while this year we’ll all be celebrating from home that doesn’t mean you can’t indulge while you’re indoors. Though not a must-have for creating the perfect drink at home, you can take your margaritas, daiquiris, and other frozen drinks to the next level with a margarita maker.

Right now, the iconic Margaritaville Bahamas Frozen Concoction Maker is on sale, and today is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the savings. Regularly priced at $220, the drink machine is now available for $180, but only for a limited time.

How does it work?

This bar essential shaves ice and blends it carefully with fresh juices, fruits and other ingredients to produce up to 36 oz. (946 mL)  of restaurant-style frozen drinks. It comes with the option for both automatic and manual settings, so you can customize the consistency of each beverage to your personal preference.

When making drinks for a crowd (in the future, of course), this machine also features a rear reservoir that channels away melting ice, ensuring that your mix doesn’t dilute as you’re blending.

Each machine uses a durable plastic blending jar with measuring marks up the side and an easy-grip handle, that’s as easy to clean as it is to use. Once you’re ready to pack up the drink maker, simply place the blending jar and lid in the dishwasher for quick cleanup.

What shoppers are saying

Earning a 4.7 star rating on more than 350 reviews, this margarita maker offers a quick and easy way to craft restaurant-quality drinks at home. Shoppers are loving that it finely shaves ice into the ideal slush consistently, and works equally well on alcoholic and virgin drinks.

“Makes great restaurant quality frothy/icy margaritas, frozen drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, including daiquiris, piña coladas, frozen lemonade/limeade - love it!” wrote one enthusiastic reviewer.

“I absolutely love the way this product makes frozen drinks easy and pretty much fool proof,” added another. “I will be using this year round - not just in the summer.”

Reviewers have noted that this machine is made entirely out of plastic, meaning that it’s potentially less durable than other metal and glass drink makers. Plastic is also less breakable than glass though, so what might be seen as a downside for some could be be a draw for others.

The verdict

While there is some trial and error involved in determining the best ratio of liquids to ice, once that’s figured out it’s smooth sailing when it comes to the Margaritaville Bahamas Frozen Concoction Maker. It’s also on the noisy side when in use, but that’s to be expected of appliances that blend ice.

If you’re looking for a fun appliance to liven up your next get-together, this drink maker will be a welcome addition to any bar setup or backyard patio.
