Matt Amodio Called Out 'Jeopardy!' After Jonathan Fisher Got an "Unfair Free Pass"

Former Jeopardy! champion Matt Amodio has his eye on his successor Jonathan Fisher, and he recently called out a minor yet important thing that was changed just for the current titleholder.

As folks may know, after the show's first commercial break, Jeopardy! contestants are usually asked to share a little bit about themselves. But on Monday’s episode, Jeopardy! host Mayim Bialik had a question for Jonathan instead. “So, you have secured a position in the next Tournament of Champions, you might go head-to-head with Matt Amodio. What do you think that would be like?” she said.

“It would be amazing,” he said. “It’s one of the highlights of my life to be here but to also have played against Matt, so to get to do it again would just be icing on the cake.” Mayim then said she “would love to see” it happen.

But Matt, who watched the segment on Jeopardy!’s official Twitter account, didn’t fail to notice that Jonathan was spared the stress of having to come up with an interesting story about himself. “Totally unfair. #Jeopardy just *gives* @JFishtheDish a free pass on an anecdote?” he wrote in a retweet. “Meanwhile I'm left flailing with ‘I listen to music sometimes’ and ‘There was a bat. Did it do anything? No, it just sat there and then went away.’”

After hearing from the beloved former Jeopardy! champion, Matt’s fans couldn't help but share some of their favorite anecdotes that he had revealed on the show. “Let's not forget about that time you did the dishes,” one person wrote. “My favorite one was when you got the scar on your hand going apple picking,” another added. “Don’t be so hard on yourself, your anecdotes were good! Now we know you struggle with the dishwasher and escalators 😂😂😂,” a different fan said.

What’s more, others applauded him for coming up with a total of 38 snippets over the course of his winning streak. “Those anecdotes were pretty legendary [though] not gonna lie 😂,” a follower commented. “Your stock of stories, given your age, was quite surprising! Not as impressive as your breadth of knowledge, but still impressive!” someone else tweeted. “This thread is just making me realize how great you are at telling stories! Few of these sound compelling on paper but it seems like we all enjoyed them 🏆,” a viewer declared.

One fan wondered if Matt had made up some of his anecdotes — after all, Jeopardy! prodigy Ken Jennings recently admitted to doing this during his historic 75-game winning streak in 2004. “Nope, but I was starting to consider it!” Matt replied to the curious viewer.

Jokes aside, Matt has been cheering on Jonathan from the sidelines and sending him an encouraging message here and there. “👏👏 Congratulations, @JFishtheDish! Winning #Jeopardy on a Monday can be hard! 👏👏,” he wrote in another tweet.

Matt now has a lifelong fanbase, and many can’t wait to see him back on the Jeopardy! stage in the near future.
