Maya Rudolph’s Reaction to Kamala Harris Being the Vice Presidental Pick Is Perfect

And it means more Kamala on Saturday Night Live.

While many people are celebrating Kamala Harris being picked as Joe Biden's 2020 running mate, Maya Rudolph has more reason than most. The Saturday Night Live alum played Harris during the Democratic Presidential debates and today's news means that she'll have more opportunities to reprise her role.

"Oh, shit. Ruh-roh," Rudolph told Entertainment Weekly after the announcement. "That's spicy."

She went on to say that the news would let her reprise her role as Harris on SNL, something that she's looking forward to, even if it means traveling to New York City during a global pandemic. She said that she loved her time on the show and still considers the cast and crew to be her family.

"I love going to the show any excuse I can get ... I just didn't really anticipate traveling during this pandemic, but if there's anyone who can work it out I'm sure Lorne [Michaels] has some kind of invisible helicopter that can get me there," she said. "Ever since I was a kid truly I wanted to be on any kind of SCTV, Saturday Night Live, and I can't believe that I got to work there and I can't believe that it's my family still and I'm so thrilled that I got to go back. It's my favorite place to play."

Rudolph's turn as Harris earned her an Emmy nomination this year, which is just one more reason that she's happy to head back to Studio 8H. While she's not quite ready to go just yet — she told ET that she'd have to figure out exactly what sort of safety precautions are in place before books a flight — knowing that she's happy to return to SNL is great news for fans.

"I'm as surprised as you are, guys," she said of the nomination. "I don't know that I'm ready to go right this minute, but it's so nice to have this nomination be associated with the show because it's my true love."

Rachel Dratch, Rudolph's SNL co-star, basically said what we were all thinking when the news broke.
